Our sanpadrepio Prayer Group Format (voluntary)

The following is our own special prayer for this group, composed by one of our moderators, Kevin Hale.
To those that wish to memorize this prayer and pray it daily....may God and Padre Pio reward you abundantly!

"Saint Padre Pio we turn to you our patron.

We ask you to bless and intercede for those of us who are sick or suffering in any way,

and for those in your hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo.

Hear the intentions of our members as we pray with you, for all your intentions.

We pray with Mary Mother of the Church, your Mother and ours.

May we your children grow each day to love Jesus more,

that we may join you in praising him forever in our eternal home.  Amen"

1. Rosary: Consider dedicating one decade of your daily Rosary specifically for the intentions of everyone in our sanpadrepio group, and for those who ask our for our prayers.  Also think about praying your Rosary when possible at the same time that it is prayed at the Friary in Italy, which is at 8:45 PM daily.  This would be 2:45 PM Eastern, 1:45 PM Central, 12:45 PM Mountain, and 11:45 AM Pacific time.

Also, since the Holy Father has proclaimed a new set of Rosary mysteries of light (luminous mysteries), perhaps when you pray them you can include in your intentions those of our group.  The new mysteries are the Baptism of Jesus, the wedding at Cana, His proclamation of the Kingdom of God and call to conversion, the Transfiguration, and the institution of the Holy Eucharist.

2. Novena prayer: if possible take time to recite the "Efficacious Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus", which was prayed each day by St. Pio for all those who asked his prayers. The prayer is available further down on this page.

3.  Morning prayer:  a suggested morning prayer is the new prayer to St. Pio sanctioned by the local Bishop of the Friary:

O God, You gave Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, Capuchin priest, the great privilege of participating in a unique way in the passion of Your Son.  Grant me through his intercession the grace of ......... which I ardently desire, and above all grant me the grace of living in conformity with the death of Jesus, to arrive at the glory of the resurrection.  Glory be to the Father ...(three times).

4.  St. Padre Pio's spiritual child: During your prayers, keep in mind what it means to be a spiritual child of Padre Pio, embracing these five steps, as put forward by the Friary in San Giovanni Rotondo.

    1.   To live intensely a life of divine grace.

    2.   To prove your faith with words and actions, living a true
         Christian life.

    3.   To desire to remain under the protection of St.Pio, and to want
to enjoy the fruits of his prayers and sufferings.

    4.   To imitate Padre's virtue, particularly his love for Jesus
Crucified, for the Most Blessed Sacrament, for the Madonna, for
the Pope, and for the entire Church.

    5.   To be animated by a sincere spirit of charity towards all.

If you have not already done so you can ask St. Pio in your heart to be his spiritual child, or you can be formally enrolled.  One way to do this is by writing to the Friary directly (international postage rates www.usps.com).  It is cusomary to enclose a small donation.

5. Feast Day: If possible celebrate Confession, Mass and Communion on St. Pio's Feast Day, September 23.

The Efficacious Novena
to the Sacred Heart

This Novena prayer was recited every day by
Padre Pio for all those who asked for his prayers.
The faithful are invited to recite it daily,
so as to be spiritually united with Saint Pio.

ask and it will be given you, seek and you will find,
"knock and it will be opened to you."
Behold I knock, I seek and ask for the grace of.…..
Our Father... Hail Mary.. Glory be to the Father...
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

Our Father... Hail Mary.. Glory be to the Father...
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

O, Sacred Heart of Jesus, for whom it is impossible

your tender mother and ours.

Pray "Hail, Holy Queen…….."
Close with "
St. Joseph , foster father of Jesus pray for us."

Rosary and Mass from the Friary

(Information thanks to Jeanette Salerno)

www.teleradiopadrepio.it

You can watch the Rosary at www.teleradiopadrepio.it. Here are the times: The Evening Rosary LIVE at 2:45 p.m. ES time. (It is 8:45 in the evening in San Giovanni Rotondo.) NOTE: The Evening Rosary is repeated at 6:30 p.m. ES time. Remember, this is an ENCORE of what took place earlier.

There is also The Mass, LIVE, in the crypt of Padre Pio at 1:30 a.m. ES . You'll see the priest enter the crypt. . Sometimes the crypt is filled with people, sometimes there are not so many. It depends on many things, including weather, and the pilgrimage season, during which it is very crowded.

Also bear in mind that like regular, commercial TV, once in a while there are times when the scheduled Rosary is pre-empted for some reason, (it is always said every day at other hours in the new church). On Fridays, during LENT, for instance, instead of the Rosary they have the STATIONS-- in Italian, of course, but still easy to follow as they move from Station to Station. This is the way they have done it in past years. I don't know if this year will be different. I enjoy watching the devotion of the San Giovannese.

Whenever they pre-empt for something, don't give up the next day. Things usually return to normal.

Prayer Group Policies

Attachments to emails are automatically removed.   This is an option of Yahoo Groups that our group has chosen to use.  It will prevent a potential infection by a virus from affecting the whole group.

As events unfold in our sanpadrepio group,  issues arise which need addressing.  Below are either the policies or emails sent out by the moderators to address these issues:

1.  Email posts that request donations:

Please don't send emails that request donations.

Date:  Wed Nov 6, 2002  9:37 am
Subject:  about donations

Occasionally a prayer request comes into the group that also explicitly or implicitly asks for financial help. In no way are such requests endorsed or made with the recommendation of the sanpadrepio group itself. You will have to use your own judgement about such requests and try to followup yourself if you want to give money. Since we cannot monitor whether every such request is legitimate, it would be best if such emails were not even sent to the group.
If for some reason a financial request is made on behalf of the group, it
will be made very clear that it is from the group moderators for a specific
purpose. For example, we were thinking that maybe, if we can get a Padre Pio
pilgrimage set up for next year, we could visit the town that lost all it's
first grade children in the recent quake. Then we could present them with a
donation for their parish church or their relief fund. In that case we would
make it clear to all that a request for donations would be on behalf of our
group for that specific purpose.
Otherwise we do not think it wise to have emails sent to the group asking or
hinting at donations for private individuals.
Thank you for your understanding. We are not making any accusations, but we
just want to make our position clear to avoid any potential problems.

2.  Email posts that stray from the topic of Padre Pio:

Every once in a while we go off topic and that's OK, but if becomes an extended discussion or debate, please take it off-group.

Date:  Tue Aug 27, 2002  3:16 pm - revised 6/26/06.
Subject:  the Medjugorje topic

To specifically answer your statement: "Frank, as our moderator, I strongly believe that you should Not permit these messages on this list." Regarding the Medjugorje message post on our list, since this is a Padre Pio prayer/discussion group it was not on topic. And the fact that Medjugorje is not officially approved complicates the situation. [In the case of Medjugorje and other non-approved apparitions, it would be best NOT to post anything about them in the sanpadrepio group - added 6/26/06 by group owner]. We have to be very flexible and balanced. St.Padre Pio was very devoted to the Blessed Virgin, to the souls in Purgatory,to the Eucharist and Mass, the Priesthood, confession......you get the idea.... Our group is very good at bringing in a Padre Pio connection to these various aspects of our Catholic Faith. Since the group emails are not approved first by the moderators it is up to each of us to remember that we are a Padre Pio prayer/discussion group first and foremost. Yet at the same time we want to be open to topics that are dear to Padre Pio's heart, such as the recent discussions about Purgatory. To go a little further, if someone sent something out about Mother Teresa for example, I don't see a problem, as long as it does not lead us into an extended discussion over many days that has no relation to Padre Pio.

3. Group welcomes people of all religions.

Even though St. Padre Pio was a Roman Catholic, and elements of the Catholic faith that were dear to Padre Pio will be discussed,  our sanpadrepio group is open to people of all religious persuasions who have an interest in Padre Pio.  We want to avoid judgmental comparisons of Catholic teachings with those of other religious groups.

Date:  Fri Jan 17, 2003  9:08 am
Subject:  tolerance

In view of the recent emails of the past few weeks, I am thinking of adding
something to the description of our group. It would basically say that even
though St. Padre Pio was a Roman Catholic, we welcome people of any religious
persuasion to our group, if they are interested in Padre Pio. Since he was a
Catholic, we will naturally be bringing up topics such as devotion to Mary, the
Real Presence in the Eucharist, the Mass, Purgatory, and other topics that are
intimately involved with Padre's life. However, we want to avoid discussions
that compare the teaching of Catholics, or the Catholic Church itself, to other
religions and their teachings. We want everyone to feel welcomed to the group.
Zero-tolerance = Intolerance.

4. OK to disgree, but please no personal attacks.

DATE: Wednesday, June 14, 2006 10:14 PM

Dear group,
It has been over three years since we had to update the sanpadrepio guidelines.
Sometimes the group discussions become heated, which is acceptable up to a point. There are ways of tactfully and respectfully pointing out what you feel may be wrong with something someone wrote. But, emails which chastise, accuse, or personally attack another member are not appropriate as public messages in this particular group. If you feel that strongly, please email the person off-line and privately. If the moderators feel that a member is badgering others, that member's emails may be subject to approval by the moderators before being posted.
Thank you.

5.  Disclaimer - Yahoo Groups allows for removing people from a group if they do not comply with policies.

Sanpadrepio policy disclaimer:  This group as currently configured does not filter out messages in advance except for new members. Therefore the only way to prevent someone who continually ignores group policies from posting to the group is to remove them from the group.   This is done through a Yahoo Groups option that prevents an email address from sending messages to the group.  If such removal does take place, it is nothing personal against the former member, nor is there any intent to malign or defame anyone's reputation.  Removal is based entirely on failure to comply with group policies.   Removal can take place if a number of members complain or are upset about someone's messages, or if the moderators deem that a person is repeatedly violating group policy.
